各平台都可使用的基本英文字型與PDF的字型內嵌?
我想要問有關於英文字型的問題, 不知道在這裡發文對不對.
我的環境有MS Windows, Linux與Mac, 採用Openoffice與NeoOffice, 在編輯文件時, 有個頭大問題就是:
常用英文字型要怎樣統一?
中文字型在前人努力下, 真是順暢無比, 到處都找的到下載. 可是, 像是英文正規字型, 真的很煩, 我不想天天告訴Mac說, Windows的Arial就是你的Helvetica, 或者告訴Linux說, Windows給的Times New Roman你就用Times就對了....對於花幾個月時間調整好的長篇文章, 逐行逐字/每個圖都要重新面對那些字型間的微小差距, 調整到吐血....
. 我只想找兩個基本字型, 然後通通安裝在三個平台上.
1. Helvetica/Arial,
2. Times
居然找不到合法免費或者公開的下載來源....真是不敢相信, 各位能幫忙嗎?
另外還想請問一下, 在輸出PDF檔時, 如何將字型內嵌, 以便到不同系統時, 確保不會出毛病或者還要另外安裝字型才能看?

我也有類似的問題，而且也沒有什麼好的解決方案，我只在 windows 與 linux 版本下找到它們似乎共有的字型 Bitstream Vera Sans，只是不知 Mac 上是否有這字型，也許它可以取代 Arial。我新作的講義的英文字型盡可能都改成 Bitstream Vera Sans，早期我都用 Arial Narrow，兩種字型差別很大，改得半死、還不太容易改得完全。

We can split according to several criteria:
Serif/Sans Serif
Proportional/Non-proportional (monospace, fixed width)
There are a few more, but these are the most common. In regular documents, I would use a Sans Serif typeface (Helvetica, Arial...) for headings and a Serif typeface (Times) for text.
Monospace typefaces are only useful for programming and ASCII terminals.

Sorry, this comes in English...
We can split according to several criteria:
Serif/Sans Serif
Proportional/Non-proportional (monospace, fixed width)
There are a few more, but these are the most common. In regular documents, I would use a Sans Serif typeface (Helvetica, Arial...) for headings and a Serif typeface (Times) for text.
Monospace typefaces are only useful for programming and ASCII terminals.

是很不錯的單純解決方案, 但是不是大多數人都安裝這個字型, 結果送出去的文件到對方手裡就會一團亂. 比方送審論文時, 有些期刊的遞送系統這樣設計的, 先投遞doc/ppt(不能寄pdf, 真想哭), 然後系統自動回寄pdf, 若使用到系統沒有的字型, 下場會比較淒慘.
不知道可不可以建議設計者, Dejavu的Serif怎麼跟細明體的英文一樣難看, SerifCondensed倒還不錯看...

And for sequencing display in Biological Sciences, Matrix display in Math, reports/charts in Medicine, etc.....

所以我現在至少在我們學校內部想推廣比較“標準”（沒有license問題，所以可以安裝在所有平台）的字體。羅馬字我就想用Dejavu。Linux的話，好像都有提供這個套件，只有Windows跟OS X要“另外”安裝。然後最麻煩的一步：讓大家真的用到那些字體...
